A new beginning

Sometimes it’s easier to start all over again than to come back and pickup where you left off. I took a long break, and managed to undo everything I had accomplished. To be perfectly honest I am not surprised or disappointed. I guess I always just knew that something was wrong and it was going to be just like any other time.

Fixing things that I feel were wrong.

Anyone who has ever belonged to a gym knows that terminating your membership is always a pain in the ass. Even month-to-month memberships are a hastle. I was finally able to terminate our gym membership in January, which of course meant that I had to pay for February.

Cardio used to get boring really fast. Three weeks ago I ordered a Recumbent Bike which arrived nearly a week later with a missing part. The manufacture was quick to 2-day the missing part. As of last week I have been slowly getting back into cardio.

I have the bike near my super nice DLP HDTV, so I can rock some video games, or watch a show/movie while I am exercising. I Also find it a hell of a lot easier to get out of bed and hop on the bike each morning or after work at night, than to have to get ready and drive 15 minutes to a packed gym.

In addition to the bike, I have also purchased a few weight training pieces of equipment. I have a nice weight-adjustable dumbbell, which I am in the process of looking for a second. I have a pull-up bar, that I can’t really use because I am not even close to being able to do a pull up. Lastly, I have some pushup stands, and a workout mat. There are a couple of more things that I will be picking up in the next few weeks, and then probably much more once I have a house.

I have probably spent close to $600 for everything that I have bought, which is still a decent amount less than a single years Gym membership. And since both Jen and I use everything, it’s even more savings.

I am making some changes on the nutrition side of all this as well. We now go grocery shopping minimum twice a month to make sure that there is always something good and healthy to eat. I personally found that if I am ordering out lunch or dinner, 99% of that time I end up eating worse than I would have if I had brought stuff in from home, or at least planned out my meals. So now I either bring in something from home, or I buy my lunch as I get my coffee in the morning when I can make a good decision while not being hungry.

Last week was the my first week back on cardio, so I felt it was on appropriate to start recording my weight. On Monday, April 2nd, I weighed in at 306.1. I did cardio most days last week. 20 minutes in the mornings and 20 in the evenings. There was no weight training, or anything else. I ate fairly healthy most of the time, with some exceptions this past holiday weekend.

Today I weighed in at 303.8. Down 2.3 pounds.

I am trying to take a picture of myself each week, so I can compare the differences. I am not sure when or if I will start posting these images.

Also, real quick before I sign off.. I got Guitar Hero II on the 360, which is easily one of the most fun, addictive and at times frustrating games I’ve played in a very long time. Too bad that I can’t play that game while cycling away..
