Figuring out your BMI (Body Mass Index)

August 24th, 2006 · 4 Comments

Total calories consumed for Wed: ~1700

No cardio last night. I felt really sore from Monday night, and I figured that I should rest. As a result I consumed less calories. Tonight is Back and Triceps at the gym, as well as cardio.

Colin posted the formula for figuring out what your BMI should be on his “What is a healthy weight for you?” post.

So the equation is (WeightX705)/Height(/Height) = BMI.

Healthy: 18.5 - 24.9
Overweight: 25 - 29.9
Obese: 30 or more

Also, here is a calculator that will figure out your BMI.

And finally, here is the chart to determine your healthy weight:

BMI Chart

This chart, and BMI are a generalization. Not everyone fits into these numbers, as people have different amounts of muscle mass, or bone density. Regardless, it’s good to have a general idea of where I should be headed. For right now I am sticking to small goals, and trying to avoid glaring at the big picture.

Lol, really odd way to end a post about overall weight and bmi: ‘For right now I am sticking to small goals, and trying to avoid glaring at the big picture’.

Also, I got the ‘big picture’ pun. Eh? EH?! HAHAHAH!

    hi.

Way to go - keep blogging - it helped me lose almost 80 pounds to date! Check out my blog to see my journal entries for the past 400+ days of my weight loss conquest! I still have 30 to go and for the past two months I have seemed to plateau, its been hard - I know these last 30 are going to be difficult but I can do it!!! i WILL do it! I started out, 6′ 1″ and 305 pounds. Over a year later, here I am and 220 - my eventual goal is 190, and if possible I may get to between 175-189.

Ill be sure to keep checking back to see your progress! Way to go!
